Scope
This Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal data when you use the Enset AI mobile app and related services in Ethiopia, Kenya, and the United States.
Data we collect
- Account data: Phone number (for OTP sign-in); language/locale (Amharic/English).
- Farm data: Farm profile fields (e.g., farm name, crop, notes); farm photos that you upload.
- Location: Precise location only when you choose “Use my location” or place a map pin for a farm. No background or continuous GPS collection.
- Device/Identifiers: Device/instance ID and push notification token for security and notifications.
- Technical logs (minimal): OS, app version, and similar technical data for security and diagnostics.
- We do NOT collect: analytics/usage statistics, advertising IDs, payments/financial data, contacts, health/biometric data, microphone audio.
How we use data
- Provide and maintain the app (account, authentication, farm profiles/photos, mapping).
- Weather and alerts: Fetch per-farm weather and send catastrophic event alerts by push and in-app. Alerts expire when the event passes or is cancelled/updated.
- Security and fraud prevention.
- Customer support and service communications (e.g., OTP).
Legal bases (by region, where applicable)
- Contract and/or legitimate interests: to provide core app functionality and security.
- Consent: for optional features such as one-time GPS use and push notifications (you can disable these in settings).
- For California residents, we handle personal information in accordance with CCPA/CPRA. For Kenya residents, we follow the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019. For Ethiopia, we follow applicable data protection principles.
Sharing and processing (we don’t sell your data)
We do not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use third-party processors that act on our behalf:
- AWS S3 (hosting/storage).
- Google Maps SDK (map tiles; coordinates only when you request location features).
- FCM (Android) and APNs (iOS) for push delivery (using your push token).
- Planette API and Google Weather (weather data using farm coordinates).
These providers may process data on servers outside your country.
International transfers
Primary storage is in the AWS Africa region. Data may be processed or transmitted in other locations where our processors operate. We use appropriate contractual and technical safeguards where required by law.
Retention
- Phone number and account data: retained for the life of the account plus 12 months.
- Farm profiles and photos: retained until you delete them or delete your account.
- Server logs (minimal): retained for 90–180 days.
- Push tokens: retained while notifications are enabled.
We may retain data longer if necessary to comply with law, resolve disputes, or ensure security.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, and, where applicable, to opt out of certain processing. California residents may exercise rights under CCPA/CPRA. Kenya residents may contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC). Children
The app is intended for adults aged 18+ and is not directed to children.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures appropriate to the risk, including encryption in transit, access controls, and limited employee access.
Account deletion
You can delete your account in-app. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated personal data that we are not legally required to keep.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by other reasonable means.
